The International Conference “Sustainable Growth through Long-Term Investments” Held in Moscow
On the threshold of the G20 finance ministers’ and central bank governors’ meeting the International Conference “Sustainable Growth through Long-Term Investments “took place in Moscow.
Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov read out Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s welcoming address to the Conference’s participants.
Speaking at a session “Cooperation between National and Multilateral Development Institutions” Vnesheconombank Chairman Vladimir Dmitriev said that “Vnesheconombank’s mission today was to actively enhance cooperation with leading international financing institutions and development institutions of all world regions…It is development institutions that are the most important sources of long-term investments”. In the attendance of the Conference were representatives of more than fifty financing development institutions and international financing institutions.
The Conference’s participants discussed issues of long-term investing and a role of government sources of investment funding, instruments for infrastructure funding, development of cooperation between national and international financing institutions, application of PPP mechanisms in development institutions’ activity in raising long-term private capital.
At their session in the course of the Conference, members of the International Development Finance Club (IDFC) discussed issues of cooperation between national and international development institutions on increasing efficiency of investments used to develop infrastructure, “green growth”, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
In the context of Russia’s chairmanship in the Group of Twenty, a meeting of heads of G20 member countries development institutions took place on July 18. First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov took part in the meeting. The meeting’s participants issued a joint statement reflecting their position on key issues related to development banks’ activity and long-term investments. The statement is expected to be used to prepare decisions for a G20 heads of state summit to be held on September 5-9, 2013 in the city of Saint Petersburg.
In the course of the Conference Vnesheconombank signed memorandums on cooperation to enhance further cooperation with such financial development and export support institutions as Germany’s KfW Banking Group, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Argentinean Banco de Inversion y Comercio Exterior S.A. (BICE), The Indonesia EXIMBANK and the Kazakhstan Development Bank.
The Conference’s participants stated the positive effect of their meeting in Moscow and they believe that this format of cooperation between national development institutions, state-run export support institutions, international financing institutions, clubs and associations of development institutions is useful and constructive.
