A World Premiere of the Raimonda Ballet’s Original Production was Held with Vnesheconombank’s Assistance

A world premiere of Alexander Glazunov’s ballet Raimonda was held at the La Scala Theatre in Milan.

The historical ballet was produced in a strict accordance with Marius Petipa’s original production in the Mariinsky Theatre (Saint-Petersburg) in 1898. The recreation of the imperial ballet of the epoch of Nicholas the Second has been the largest project in Italy in the past decade. Besides La Scala’s ballet company, students of La Scala Theatre Ballet School and hired extra dancers were involved in the ballet. An entire Russian team of professionals also participated in implementing the project.

The ballet recreated with the assistance of the Russian-Italian Forum-Dialogue within the Framework of Civil Societies and Vnesheconombank became a significant event as part of the Russian Culture and the Russian Language Year in Italy and the Italian Culture and the Italian Language Year in Russia and generated great interest among the artistic community.

Board Member–Vnesheconombank First Deputy Chairman Nikolai Kosov attended the ballet premiere on behalf of Vnesheconombank and the Russian side of the Forum–Dialogue.

Vnesheconombank and the Kaluga Region Intend to Expand Cooperation in Comprehensive Development of the Region’s Territory

An extended session on the comprehensive development of the Kaluga region’s territory was held at Vnesheconombank. The session was chaired by Kaluga region Governor Anatoly Artamonov and – by Vnesheconombank Chairman Vladimir Dmitriev.

The session’s participants discussed the results of cooperation between Vnesheconombank Group and the Kaluga region as well as prospects for cooperation in the following lines of activity: participation in the regional development corporation, providing support for small and medium-sized enterprises, credit and investment activity, public private partnership, providing support for mono-cities.

Opening the session Vladimir Dmitriev said that nowadays there is a need for moving to a new stage of cooperation between Vnesheconombank and the Kaluga region in order to develop the region on a comprehensive basis using the whole range of banking products and instruments that Vnesheconombank Group has at its disposal.

As a result of the session Vnesheconombank Group and the Kaluga region Government signed a Joint Action Plan for Comprehensive Development of the Kaluga region’s territory for a period of 2011-2013 as well as an Agreement on Cooperation in Providing Support for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

Vnesheconombank and the Kaluga Region Government Agree to Support SMEs in the Region

In the course of the extended session on the Kaluga region’s comprehensive development, State Corporation ‘Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank)’ and the Kaluga region Government entered into an Agreement on Cooperation in Providing Support for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

On behalf of Vnesheconombank the Agreement was signed by Board Member – Vnesheconombank Deputy Chairman Mikhail Kopeikin and on behalf of the Kaluga region Government - by First Deputy Governor Maksim Akimov.

The Agreement aims to establish strategic partnership and promote long-term and effective cooperation in providing support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on the territory of the Kaluga region.

The Parties agreed to use Vnesheconombank’s guarantee mechanisms when foreign financial institutions extend credits to fund regional projects on the territory of the Kaluga region.

The Agreement also provides for cooperation in taking measures for rendering the state’s non-financial assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises including information and consulting support.

This Agreement’s implementation would help to expand access to high technologies for small and medium-sized enterprises to make them more competitive, form a comprehensive system of supporting SMEs on the territory of the Kaluga region on the basis of regional measures for providing the state’s support for SMEs as well as on basis of the financial program of providing financial support for SMEs that is being implemented by Vnesheconombank through OJSC SME-Bank.

The U.S.-Russia Business Council Considers Russia’s Investment Capabilities

Russia’s investment appeal became the main theme of an Annual Meeting of the U.S.-Russia Business Council (USRBC) that opened in Chicago on October 4, 2011.The first meeting devoted to expanding Vnesheconombank’s investment capabilities was opened by First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.

In the course of the session Board Member – Vnesheconombank Deputy Chairman Petr Fradkov made a presentation of Russia’s Export Credit and Investment Insurance Agency that is being established. A principal decision providing for Vnesheconombank to establish a special financial institution responsible for insuring export credits and investments was taken by the Bank’s Supervisory Board in July of 2010. On September 27, 2011 the Agency’s Charter and Governance Bodies were founded by a decision of the Bank’s Supervisory Board.

The Russian Fund of Direct Investments (RFDI) was also presented to the meeting’s participants. In the course of discussing RFDI’s activity potential investors showed interest in such Russian industries as pharmaceutics, energy efficiency, agricultural sector and manufacturing of auto components.

In attendance of the meeting were representatives of the largest American companies – potential investors: Pfizer, Alcoa, Chevron, ExxonMobil, representatives of Russian and American political, economic and financial circles.

The U.S.-Russia Business Council is a non-profit Trade Association founded in 1993 in order to expand and promote commercial relations between the U.S. and Russia as well as to help American companies to operate on the Russian market.

Vnesheconombank has been USRBC’s member since 2000, the Bank’s management participates regularly in all events conducted under its auspices.

Vnesheconombank Organizes a Workshop on Sharing Experience in Funding Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

As part of the Working Group on Cooperation in the Financial Sector of the Joint Russian-Austrian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Vnesheconombank held a workshop “Sharing Experience in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Banking”.

The welcoming addresses were given by the co-chairmen of the Working Group: from the Russian side – by Vnesheconombank’s Financial Institutions Departments Director Alexander Zelenov, from the Austrian side by Director of Oesterreichische Kontrolbank AG Ferdinand Schipfer.

In attendance of the workshop were representative of the Russian and Austrian financial institutions involved in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Taking into account a significant share of SMEs in Austria’s economy and its substantial contribution to forming the country’s GDP and Austrian banks’ extensive practice in providing support for the SME sector, the theme of the workshop is of great interest to Russian banks. Representatives of the largest Austrian banks shared their experience. They included UniCreidit Bank Austria AG, Raiffeisen Bank International AG, Oberbank AG, specialized financial institution Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH as well as a subsidiary bank of VTB Group – VTB Bank (Austria) AG.

From the Russian side Vnesheconombank’s SME Promotion Department Director Alexei Eskindarov and representatives of OJSC SME-Bank and partner banks (OJSC UniCredit Bank, Bank Vozrozhdenie, the Asian-Pacific Bank) told about the practice of funding SMEs.

Vnesheconombank is cooperating actively with its Austrian partners in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. In May of 2011, Vnesheconombank and the Austria Development Bank - Oeterreichische Kontrolbank Aktiengesellschaft (OeKB)entered into an Agreement on Cooperation in Promoting SMEs. For the most part the Agreement  aims to expand access to financing for SMEs – participants in Russian-Austrian trade and economic relations through rending joint assistance in funding banks operating in the Russian Federation. The Agreement specifies the following parameters: the total amount of funding is to be  200 million euros, tenors of funding are to be no less than 2 years. Depending on enterprises’ needs OeKB is ready to extend credits for periods in excess of 12 years.

The Russian-Austrian Working Group on Cooperation in the Financial Sector was established in 2003 subject to the decisions made by the Joint Russian-Austrian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation as its standing working body. Vnesheconombank has been in charge of the Russian part of the Working Group since 2004.
