Exhibition “The Forbidden City. Treasures of Chinese Emperors» Opens in the Moscow Kremlin
Today, on March 27, the Exhibition “The Forbidden City. Treasures of Chinese Emperors” from the world-famous collection of the Beijing Emperor Palace opened in the Moscow Kremlin.
The Exhibition is being staged in the course of holding the Year of China in Russia with the assistance of Vnesheconombank and the China State Development Bank and is a response to the Exhibition “Golden Russia. Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin” which ran successfully in Beijing in the year 2006.
Included in the Exhibition are works of Chinese art spanning different epochs and associated with everyday life of the emperor and his family, symbols of power, attributes of court ceremonial, palace household articles of high artistic merit dating back to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
The display illustrates China’s multifaceted culture and allows us to become familiar with China’s history and get to know many new things about this wonderful country. Now that political and economic ties between Russia and China are expanding rapidly it’s becoming especially important to have a chance of getting deeper insight into both countries’ historical and cultural legacy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vnesheconombank Chairman Vladimir Dmitriev said that there was no doubt that the Exhibition “The Forbidden City. Treasures of Chinese Emperors» would promote closer ties between our nations and peoples, enable us to get to know and understand each other better, and have the most beneficial influence on promoting Russian-Chinese relations. “Most importantly, it would boost our mutual trust. Whatever they might say about economic cooperation, attitudes of people, their willingness to cooperate and their knowledge of each other’s history and culture are important and in many instances main factors in building up our relations.”
